Participants in the program will make minimum wage, which is currently $13.20 an hour. This will allow for more county youths to participate. The Emerging Worker Recovery Program is not income based. ![]() It is an updated version of the county's youth employment programs, which places Oneida County youths with businesses over the summer months. Picente first introduced the program during his State of the County address earlier this year. ![]() The county did not disclose the exact amount used. The Emerging Worker Recovery Program is funded through the federal American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funding. The program, open to high school and college students, is slated to be year-round, at least for its first year. Oneida County unveiled its Emerging Worker Recovery Program earlier this month, a program the county said will provide expanded opportunities for student workers and boost the local workforce. “This is a great opportunity for you to shine,” Buttenschon said. Picente was joined at the kickoff event by several local officials, including State Assemblywoman Marrianne Buttenschon.īuttenschon, who worked at MVCC prior to becoming a member of the assembly, told the students the program could become the first step of their potential career. The county announced earlier this month that the summer youth internships would be changing and allow for year-round employment. It is open to high school and college age students. Oneida County’s Summer Youth Employment program has been going on for over 50 years, officials said. “It really changed what I wanted to do with my life,” Picente said of the program. Many of the students were on hand Wednesday. There are currently over 400 students taking part in the program this year, officials said. Picente was reminiscing about his time with the program Wednesday morning at MVCC’s Rome campus, during a kickoff event for this year’s Summer Youth Employment program. The county executive also keeps in contact with some of the students he worked with in his time as a counselor, stating many are highly successful and still in the region. ![]()
